Kids around the country are getting high on the internet, thanks to MP3s that induce a state of ecstasy. And it could be a gateway drug leading teens to real world narcotics.

At least that's what Kansas News 9 is reporting about a phenomenon called I-dosing, which involves finding an online dealer who can hook you up with "digital drugs" that get you high through your headphones.

I find it's hilarious that this is becoming a news story NOW. I remember this shit from years ago.

Yeah, I found out about this almost five years ago and was like "Cool, lemme try it." And downloaded some free demo or bootleg or something and it didn't do shit.

You guys ever seen Irréversible?

The film also uses extremely low-frequency sound during the opening twenty to thirty minutes to create a state of disorientation and unease in the audience, including the nine minute rape scene.

I always thought that was a nice added touch.

Funny enough, I only made it about 20-30 minutes into that movie before turning it off.

Yeah, apparently their technique worked because I did indeed feel very uneasy and wasn't entirely sure why. Aside from the fact that I just watched a guy get his face completely bashed in by a fire extinguisher among other things. I've thought about trying again to watch it, but it's not exactly a priority.

Newsflash: The score of a movie has an effect on the audience? Doing it right isn't always easy, doing it WELL is tough, but it's not revolutionary.

Yeah it may be that it's just a super fucked up movie.

Which I noted, yes, but I've seen fucked up shit in movies before and it was just a different feeling. Sure the score can have an effect, but wasn't it more of a droning noise? I don't really recall.

Idunno, given that Noise music is still music, I think a score can consist of more than just songs? I guess you could expand it to sound design overall, but long stretches of sound sound more like score to me.

Ever see There Will Be Blood? Score is suuuuper dissonant.

BREAKING NEWS: I mentioned the noise/sounds/score of the movie due to it being more related to this, compared to linking say a movie with a soundtrack of Lord Of The Rings or some shit. Which seems completely irrelevant to this.

Wasn't implying it was revolutionary to say the least ;)

It's an unconventional form of a score (that was used appropriately) to a commercial movie. Majority of movies consist of orchestra like scores e.g. Lord Of The Rings, Star Wars... I haven't seen Twilight but lets just throw it in there (since it's recent). I assume it would have it, since... just look at it, you know it's full of dramatic orchestra like music... I'd be surprise if it didn't hah!

I think irreversiblé is just shot that way, some shots are like straight out of my nightmares...
"Begotten" had the same effect on me, though that one did it in a more obvious way (in that it's reduced to only white and black without greytones).
But back on the main topic, I think noise music is one of the few types that really alters your state close to what a drug would do. That and drone.

Not at all, just fisting you w/love.

I guess drone and noise can have a dramatic effect on people due to being, imo, an extreme form of "sounds".

That's kinda what I was getting at. I wasn't trying to disclude noise, including droning, as a musical genre, it's just not your typical soundtrack. It's an odd movie with an odd soundtrack and Brad just likes an opportunity to argue.
