Yeah, I don't blame you for being sketchy about using craigslist. But it could be pretty useful. If I wasn't half the country away from you I would volunteer.

A craigslist ad might work if you just specify that you'll meet in a public place so as to keep it safe. Maybe there's a nice park nearby or some cool looking buildings (I don't know shit about LA)

I'm kind of struggling trying to find things to photograph myself.
Except I live in the dorms and am therefore surrounded by people so I really just need to be all "HAY LEMME TAKE YO PICTCHA"

Anyway, I'd give craigslist a shot. Or if you're feeling really outgoing you could just walk around and stop people and politely ask if they would mind if you took their picture, explaining that you're just having some fun or something, I don't know how to word it. I only remember actually asking a stranger if I could take their picture once, but it wasn't too bad.

"Hey bebe, I'm an ace photographer, and I think you have a uniquely delightful form. I'd like to have the privilege to photograph you, to immortalize you into my art... Why don't you stop by sometime ; )"

^ totally sounds like I'd be hitting on them xD In fact, I've seen guys do the very same thing in front of me once before and the girl was just laughing at the guy, while they walked away.

Even in a more subtle manner... I'm afraid they'd feel like I'm hitting on them or something.

Cuz what's the first thing loads of guys do when they hit on girls? "Oh hey something something... I think you're beautiful etc etc We should hang out... can i blah blah" Generalizing here, they do much worse than this ahahah

I think if you were walking with a camera as nice as yours around your neck and obviously taking pictures of things, it wouldn't come off as that weird. If you just had a little snapshot camera that would be a different case.

Although walking around with a very very expensive camera around your neck is probably not a good idea out in L.A. :D

Anyway, I got a reply from this girl.... except... she umm... well..... I stalked her a bit on the interbutts (i'm doing a background check/search! Gotta stay safe :p)... lets say I can't necessarily approve of her personality or the way she comes off anyway... plus she has some tattoos i don't approve of... which are kinda skanky, tbh. I want to keep it classy. :p She does however have a very pretty face, piercing blue eyes too... maybe I'll just take face shots. xD But I think i'd feel weird taking photos of people I wouldn't like as a person... it'd feel wrong to me.

I know what you mean. Even if they have a pretty face and nobody else knows what kind of person they are it'll be the first thing you see when you look at the pictures.

Yeah, as I mentioned to Mano already in the IRC, I'm more looking to do things outside or in a studio i needed... want to get away from the machine a bit, since I practically do everything on it. Photography is an excuse for me to get away :p

...anyways, photography can come off quite creepy to beautiful girls, if anything, you should pick them up first, THEN take the photos (guess who's going on a photosession with her LJBF-Friend who is a photographer and her this weekend).
Other than that, I'd recommend looking for musicians that want promotional photos. There's TONS, at least around here, but I bet there's tons in LA too.
Oh, and that chick you were talking to? Yeah, she totally thought you want to fuck her XD Or at least, feels like that's the subtext there.

Well, I want to put up a portfolio so I can have some bigger representation of my work for future clients. Mostly a hobby/side-job of the sort, for extra cash etc.
