I like a handful of compositions. Some interesting stuff here and there. Although, I feel the overall production could use some work, to help it stand out a bit more in certain places.

Thanks for the advice mono

I tend not to do much production wise, I like to have it sound as close to what it would if one were listening to the music directly from a game boy. Is this a mistake?

Nah, not at all. Personal preference really. To each their own really.

I just feel particularly with archaic machines, such as a gameboy or say a c64, they can really shine with a bit of effort production wise. I mean, i know they're low-tech/lo-fi machines, but exactly due to that they can benefit from a bit of production wise.

I mean, technically these machines were not designed to be heard via nice speakers, let alone the expensive kind.

Nintendo or Commodore never intended them to be played on higher tech machines, from my understanding anyway. They were meant to play from your cheap 80s/90s T.V. speakers or your GB built in speakers and/or headphone out jack or arcade machine built in speakers. So there was no need to worry about sounding awesome and whatnot, since that wasn't the point. The point was to simply add an atmospheric environment in the cheapest possible manner in order for consumers to be able to afford such hardware, but yet have a decent experience overall etc.

Do you understand what I mean?

And regardless, even the most state of the art machines of nowadays require a bit of production and whatnot.

I do understand what you mean. I think it's quite valid actually.
